Infinitive Form
Infinitiv

This is the infinitive form. In order to form infinitive, English language uses particle TO, and German uses particle ZU, like: Ich habe ZU tun. = I have TO do. However, as in English, the German particle ZU is not used with modal verbs, as well as with: lassen, bleiben, gehen, hören, sehen, lernen, i.e.: Kann sein. = Can be., Lass mich spielen. = Let me play., Wir bleiben stehen. = We remain standing (continue to stand).

Passive Voice - Passiv

This is very similar to the Passive Voice in English, where an action is not done by the subject, but upon the subject and therefore the subject plays passive role in the sentence.
German language has two forms of Passive Voice: Vorgangspassiv and Zustandspassiv.
Vorgangspassiv (action) describes an action or a process, like: Die Tür wird geöffnet.=The doors are being opened.
Zustandspassiv (state) describes not the action but the state or the result of some action, like: Die Tür ist geöffnet.=The doors are opened.
Vorgangspassiv is formed with the helper verb werden + the verb in the Perfekt form.
Zustandspassiv is formed with the helper verb sein + the verb in the Perfekt form.

Examples Vorgangspassiv:

Die Antwort wurde geändert. = The answer was being changed., Die Frage muss geändert werden. = The question has to be changed., Der Inhalt soll geändert werden. = The contents is to be changed., Der Inhalt wird geändert. = The contents is being changed.
Examples Zustandspassiv:

Die Antwort ist geändert. = The answer is changed., Aber die Sache ist nicht geändert. = But the matter/thing is not changed.

usage:

ändern + (Akkusativ) = to change (someone, something)
ändern + an + (Dativ) = to change (in) (someone, something). Very often in is not translated at all.

English word change has two translations in German:
   ändern = to change/modify, but NOT to replace, e.g.:
    Ich habe mein Auto geändert. = I have modified my car. (changed/modified the same car)
   wechseln = to change in the sense to replace, e.g.:
    Ich habe mein Auto gewechselt. = I changed my car. (replaced with another one)
